3 Announcements:
1. For all of you who are considering running the Atlanta Marathon with us in October, here’s some incentive for you to go ahead and sign up by July 9th. One, if you use the code RELUCTANT$10 when you register, you get $10 off your registration fee. Two, everyone who registers by July 9th will have a chance to win a Nike+ GPS Sportwatch. When the registration asks how you found out about the race, click the “reluctantrunners.com” option.
2. Anyone running the Peachtree with us next week? If so, let us know in the comments.
3. We’re going to be doing our Nike+ challenge a little different in July. It’s going to be invitation-only, to prevent random (non-reluctant runners) from joining, dominating and demoralizing. If you want to be a part of it, enter your email address below by June 30th and we’ll send you an invite.

I’m reluctantly running the Peachtree. It is my first 10k post-baby. I’m excited!
Awesome! See you there. Tripp and I will be the ones with brown hair.
That’s awesome Heather L! I’m impressed that your training and running it with a baby at home! I think you get bonus points for training while suffering from post-baby sleep deprivation:) You’ll have a blast with all the music and people! This is one of my favorite races:)
Is that what’s up with DRWied? I was about to say– someone needs to tell him this is a running challenge and cars are not permitted in the competition. :-)
I didn’t want to name any names…but yeah…that guy. Not quite RR material.
Seriously yet reluctantly considering doing this marathon. My wife really wants to. I ran 6 miles last week and 7 last night, not sure I’ll be ready in time. I don’t think it is possible fir a “reluctant runner” to run daily as required by most marathon training guides? Going to wait until last minute of aforementioned $10 discount offer before I commit.
This is like running with the bulls or paying large $ to see U2 up close and VIPish; I need to do it once in my life but most likely will never do it again. But it’s on that list in my head and I need to check that box.
Love the site by the way.
Do it!
Our long run is 7 miles this weekend, so you’re exactly where we are in our training. If you want, I can email you the training program that we’re doing. We love it – you don’t have to completely turn your life over to running for the next 6 months.
Wanna share your training guide? :)

Fo sho.
Ok… been seriously considering the marathon! I’d love to see the training schedule y’all are using to see if it’s realistic for me to do in the 3 days/week I can train:)
You can do it. It seriously is as easy as two thirty minute runs and then a long run on Saturday. We will post our schedule soon, but there are a million good ones on the web.
Please do send me the training guide. Thanks
See y’all at Peachtree! I’m sure the brown hair thing will make you very easy to spot among the 50,000+ people! I’ll be the blonde in running gear!:) Good Luck!
I ran a marathon in November of last year – reluctantly! I haven’t ran one step since. I hate running…HATE running. Even more so now than I did before. This site is hilarious and encourages me to get back to running. I’m joining the Nike+ challenge for July…we’ll see.
That’s awesome. We need you around so you can mentor us. This marathon seems pretty daunting.
I think you missed the part where I haven’t ran one step since the marathon. :) I will say that I’m glad I did it and if I can do it so can anyone else (no joke!) and everyone should do it at least once because it was pretty life-changing (also not a joke). But, I will never do it again. Never. Right now Im aiming for a 5k. You’re on the right track by training with friends. I would’ve quit about 4 minutes into my training plan if I didn’t have friends running with me.
PS – if all you feel is “daunting” you’re already way ahead of me. Here’s a post I wrote last September about my running experience: http://h2orunners.blogspot.com/2010/09/eighteen-miles.html
Probably won’t end up running the marathon, but I am up for a challenge. Who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself and make my way over to Atlanta.
I am the guy with a hundred and six reasons not to run. Well last night I ran 2.5 miles, reluctantly, while waiting for my kids during their swim lessons.
BAM. Nice work steve.
I would totally join you but, I’m out here in California. I’ll keep you in my thoughts when I’m not running.
yeah!!! more running!
I wish I could enter if I lived on the other side of the country. I also wish I could enter to win that sweet sportwatch! You should do another contest! :)
am I too late to sign up? i’ve been in chicago for work and didn’t beat the deadline :(
Hi – I just found you guys today. Can I please enter the Nike+ challenge? I did a 10-mile race Memorial Day weekend, but having been running much since and would like to have some motivation to get back with it. And, I LOVE Nike+ GPS, though I’ve not registered it online. Only use it on my iPod. Will register it now incase you say yes. Please let me know.
Thanks, Lisa
of course. I’ll send you an invite.
Thanks a million!
DAMN! I just saw this. I was in the June RR challenge. I promise I’m not very good. If you’re letting in late people, can I play? I have a 10K coming up, and I need a reason to train. (heh)
Thanks.
