I travel a lot with my job. A few weeks ago I wrote a post about exercising while traveling and how it’s just one of those things that you “have” to do when you’re hardcore like me. I mean, you can’t take three days off just because you’re out of town! Well, I have a confession to make: this last weekend I was out of town again and…(deep breath)…running didn’t even cross my mind.
I can explain. You see, it didn’t cross my mind because all I could think about was the fact that, in a matter of hours, I would be attempting something I’ve never done before in front of a few hundred high school students – breaking 3 boards with my bare hand. Oh yeah, and the boards were on fire.
Valid excuse, right? At least it seemed valid at the time.
Luckily, someone caught my flaming victory on an iPhone. Enjoy!
What about you? What’s the most absurd excuse you’ve used not to run?
PS – My goal race is coming up soon. Saturday March 3rd…Zombie Run. I chose a non-traditional run so that I could focus on having fun and not getting a great time. Which, by the way, even though I am still running really slow, I have improved my mile time by almost two minutes since I started running in December!

Who needs to run when they can break boards on fire with their hands??? That’s pretty rad!! I only wish I had an excuse as cool as breaking boards.
I can’t say I’ve come up with an absurd excuse for not running as of yet, but give me time. Lol. I have however totally not ran because it was too freaking cold out for me, though I wasn’t in training. I have a 7 mile long run for my training this Sunday, and since I am running a 5k with my husband and son that day, I have to flip my long run to Saturday. Trust me…I want to use the 5k as an excuse to get out of my lung run, but I know that will hurt me in the long run (pun intended) for my endurance build-up.
As for the Zombie race, my husband desperately wants to do one of those. I have politely informed him that I will never be running those with him, but I will lovingly cheer him on. I hope your zombie race is a blast! And congratulations on cutting your time by that much! Woot!!!
